Measurements and assessments and the grey areas of fit...

So, as many of you might know, or have sussed out from my fits and reviews latel, I have experienced a bit of growth this last 6 months or so.

I’ve done my measurements 3 times this year, I think, with the first two being a bit close to each other, and the most recent one in September if I remember correctly. There was a reason why I did the first two close together, but I honestly just don’t remember now.

With both the second and third one, I completely misunderstood the fit assessment after everything was done and I basically said that everything still fits, I think. But honestly, I think that I should have done a more thorough evaluation of each bra at that time.

Anyway, as I have changed a bit recently, I feel like it’s time for an update on my measurements and to do the fit assessment properly this time. But this is where I am having questions.

How honest should I be? Completely honest, or honest with compromise? I mean, the bras that are obviously not a good fit will be marked as such. But what about the ones that are borderline, or where I wear them knowing that they are a little small still? Or the ones that fit better in one part of my cycle than the other? And then there’s the few that are the best fitting bras but still have an element that will discount the fit, such as a little bit of wrinkles at the wire or loose fabric on top when I generally still consider the bras with both issues to fit but it is minor shape mismatch. Because at this point, I have zero bras that fit 100% perfectly. But I have a few that are the best fits, a few that are clearly no longer fits, and some (most) are in between/borderline fits.

I’m asking this because I want to be realistic, but I also want to have data for the site to run on with my profile and try to paint as accurate a picture as I can. If this makes sense.

What fit aspects do you draw the line and just say it doesn’t fit?

I can go through my list and some make notes for the fit and see what you think would be the best approach for marking it/them. Just give me the go ahead. I can type something up...

I would like to get my measurements redone pretty soon. I’m hoping for sometime in the next few weeks or before the end of January at the latest to do it. And I would like to have a bit of a game plan before I start the whole measurements stuff.

Thanks!! 🙏🏻❤️

  • I think it's probably to be honest first to yourself. If you can live with the fit but it's not "perfect", I think you should mark it as fitting. There's the personal assessment where you can change things to say if things bother you or not. Our bodies seem to change so much from day to day that you'd be updating it non-stop otherwise.

MamaPagan gave me the idea of using a spreadsheet to track daily fit issues, I think that works better to track trends.

  • @Sovavosi stated it quite well. I agree that fit assessment is a very personal perspective, and you need to mark it as you feel best. I always go to the second page of the fit assessment, and often override the Yes/No answers. For example, sure my gore doesn’t tack, but it’s super comfortable and I can (& do) wear the bra, it’s a fit then regardless of that gore.

As you are one of us that goes through the high and low tides each month, it would be impossible to do the fit assessment and have it be accurate for every day of the month. Some bras will fit great at high tide, and others at low tide, but very rarely the same bra at both. So, with that in mind, do the fit assessment with those general caveats. Is it comfortable and wearable at some point during your cycle? Then it fits. Is it painful, odd shaping, or just something you wouldn’t wear due to the issues regardless if it passed all the “fits” markers? Then it doesn’t fit. We all have bras that fall into those shades of grey, that aren’t cut and dry, black or white. If people want the details about the quirks or oddities that make it a fit or no fit, they can read the review, right? That’s why we write them ☺
