A couple of months ago I tried to buy new bras. It's been an adventure, all right! I had a "bra fitting expert" measure me and try to put me in bras that were size 40b. I rebelled, and tried bras in size 38c. They seemed all right at first, and then sternum pop and quadraboob and all sorts of boobly disasters. So I tried a different site that recommended I try bras in size 36F. Astounded, off I went to a UK bra site to order a pair!

They fit quite comfortably in the band, but the cups were too large. I took a wild guess and exchanged them for size 36DD, which seems quite nice so far, though one is quite uncomfortable on me and I wanted to review it where a lot of women could see. While talking on the internet I wondered if there was a thread to review bras and I was directed here.

Of course, this site asks me to take measurements. I took measurements and was astonished to find that my rib cage measurement had *shrunk!* A month ago I was measuring at 35 inches round the ribcage, and I've been wearing bras that actually didn't dig into my boobs for a couple of weeks. I think that I may have been measuring breast tissue that had been squashed by ill fitting bras and my breasts are changing because I'm not torturing them any more. But I just ordered three more bras in size 36DD! I think that the band fit is quite comfortable, however, and I'll wear them for a few months and see if the fit changes drastically enough that I need to re-buy all my bras.

I'm happy to find this site and I'll definitely add what data I can offer about bra fit. I spent so many years in a badly fitted bra. Never again!

  • Hi! Welcome to bratabase :)
My rib cage measures 35 inches, and I wear 34 bands. You can try some bras in a 34 band if you aren't finding that the 36DDs fit you well. A sophisticated pair has the best online bra calculator (in my opinion) and you can check your measurements against their recommendation as well.

  • Welcome! :) I also found that my ribcage measurement shrunk when I started to wear the proper sizes, and I don't put on or lose weight there otherwise. :S So, I think that you mightbe onto something.

I think that your plan sounds good. You will most likely need a larger cup size within a couple of months or so so keep on scooping and check the fit each time you put the bra on. That probably works way better than bad bra fitters... :P
