    Didn't fit

A few months ago, I tried the Panache 28F wired sports bra and the fit was insanely bad. However, I keep having trouble finding sports bras and finding people who recommend the Panache's - so I gave this style another shot, in my 30E sister size.

Result: Shocker... 30E is the exact same wrong fit as 28F was. The wire is still crazy wide. It just doesn't hurt in a 30. But what is it accomplishing?

The gore doesn't tack - at all. This is basically a compression/uniboob fit for me. Might be my fault as I'm more like 28FF than 28F these days, so 30E might have been ... pushing it. But 28F back in January didn't tack either and I was much smaller then.

I just don't understand this style and I feel like there's something I'm missing about how it "works". It's frustrating because the construction quality of this bra feels so much nicer than the other sports bras with wires I've tried, and I want there to be a magical size that works.

Or is this just... wildly a bad style on me? What other sports bra models could I consider?

Last note: I tried the unwired version of this bra too and while it wasn't a fail, it was just a generic compression uniboob bra-- certainly not worth Panache's retail price.

    • there are some cheaper priced Syrokan sports bras on amazon, but unfortunately they don't have your band size if you are 28 band. : ( They start at 32 band : (

My local bra boutique owner told me that in her experience, Panache's sports bra works really well for about 80% of the people who try it...and just does NOT for everyone else. Including her.

This works pretty well for me, despite the wires being definitely "too wide", the gore not quite tacking, and the upper cups being a little too generous (especially in the size I normally wear in a non-sports bra). For whatever reason, I find it does not matter for supporting me and keeping me contained when exercising. Oddly, the technically imperfect fit does not affect the actual performance of the bra.

Chantelle has a model that is somewhat similar in construction, though I have not personally tried it. It starts at a 30 band.

Are you specifically looking for a wired sports bra, or are you willing to try anything? I might suggest something like the Enell sports bra. I know it's ugly and utilitarian, but it looks like it really gets the job done (I haven't tried it personally).

    • I'm glad you brought this up b/c I find the Panache Wired to be such an odd shape. It's like the saying, "Don't knock it till you try it," but I fail to see how my FOB boobs would feel comfortable in that odd shape, I just stick to what I'm used to, which is compression sports bras, as it seems too risky to spend $65+, when I have so my doubts initially, lol. (it's my understanding the Panache Wired basically never goes on sale...maybe for a black Friday deal, but that's it.)

To me, the shape looks all wrong for my boob type, but maybe I'm totally missing out and it would be awesome on my shape, lol.

sherrach898 Thank you for the reply! I was looking for wired. Mostly because I have plenty of compression bras that are ok. But maybe wired just isn't for me :(

@AllyBra That's interesting about what your local owner told you!! I guess it makes me feel better to hear that a pro has seen it work a lot but also not work at all. I have a lot of trouble with 30 bands in general but maybe it's OK if a sports bra is not super tight so I . Thank you!

@BraOdyssey Oh yeah, 32 I'd be swimming in. I have pretty bad luck with even 30s. Thanks though for the reply!

BraOdyssey Wooo I just saw your second commend and so happy that I'm not the only one who thinks it's a wild shape! I had to remind myself, there are so many good reviews, it truly must work for some .... just not us!! I feel like you and I are totally on the same page :)

It's been a while since I tried the 30FF - Panache Sport » Sports Bra (5021). Since losing weight, I thought I'd compare the wired and non-wired versions again. I found this in a department store in the gray colorway. The cups were a little loose on top, but I remembered straight away why this bra doesn't work for me: the gore. It is too tall and wide for my close-set, center full boobs. I get a funny shape towards the middle. The wires in general are also not cushioned enough for me and the straps don't adjust short enough. I find the materials to be ... scratchier than the non-wired by far, too. I was really hoping that it would work for me this time around. I have had some luck with Panache bras in my new size even though I could never wear them before, including some with gores that are taller than I can usually tolerate. It would have been nice to own both the wired and non-wired, especially because I find the recent colorways in the wired to be much nicer than the block solids of the non-wired. Boo.

    Used to fit

After months of reading and re-reading reviews, I decided to go up in band size and down in cup. This was a great idea, as I can't imagine being able to close a 28 band! This bra fits between how a 28F and 28FF would fit on me. When I'm sitting comfortably, the band is perfect. If I'm breathing really hard, it can start to feel a bit tight. While you obviously want security and no bounce, you also want to breathe!! So I definitely recommend sizing up in band. https://d28qt14g3opchh.cloudfront.net/smileys/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" />

I'm full on top with tall roots and slightly empty breasts ... on bottom, and you can tell this cup shape is a bit ski-slope in comparison to my shape, so it's a shape mis-match. When I swoop and scoop, it cuts into the top of my roots, and I fill the whole cup. Once I settle, it hardly cuts in (I wouldn't call it quadding, I would just call it normal pressing into the skin since it's a tight edge binding), but there's a bit of an empty bubble directly above my apex, because my natural apex is about an inch lower than the apex of the bra. BUT, the shape is round, and not pointy like I've read Freya is. The shape looks great under any shirt.

Considering the foam is so stiff and thick, and I don't feel any bounce at all (I've gone walking, biking, and done basic stretches and exercises in it. No running yet.), despite the bubble, so I can forgive the shape mis-match.

The straps are SUPER comfortable. I can't wear it racer back, but luckily the straps are close enough set that I don't even need to! If I'm feeling like my shoulders are getting a bit cramped, I can loosen the straps, and the bra has such great structure that it doesn't make a difference. The padded wires are super comfortable too. This has almost become my day/sitting at home bra because it's so comfy. https://d28qt14g3opchh.cloudfront.net/smileys/icon_razz.gif" alt=":P" /> Again, the only time it gets uncomfortable is when breathing really hard.

I highly recommend it!! Size up in band. Keep you sister size cup letter if you're a very full and round shape, but size down in cup if you're more of a pointy or medium-to-shallow or slightly empty shape.

    • Did they have 28 bands? I've been looking hard for a sports bra, but I'm a small 26...so that would be perfect for me.

    • girl333 Yep, it includes 28 bands! :) According to the 28F page (sister size to 30E), the average band length is 23.75 inches with a max stretch is about 28.25 inches. I need a max stretch of about 29.5", so that's why I sized up to 30, because the average stretched length of a 30E band is 29.9 inches.

    • 1

Ahh. I found one on Amazon. I need a max stretch of 23-26 with 24/25 being ideal. I ordered a 28G so hopefully the band on it is smaller! Thanks so much!

This is definitely better in the band for me, but it's still kind of high in the back.
Aside from creating some less than aesthetic bulges, the band is functional enough to allow me to flex comfortably. At rest it is looser than I would like, but that's okay.
The size is appropriate. This specific one I returned because there were some pretty bad creases in the cups. I'm not sure if they would come out or not and I felt it was ridiculous for a new bra at this price.
I have ordered the same size, in a different color, from a different vendor. Here's hoping I can keep that one and review it properly.

I had very high hopes for this bra given all of the hype about it. I was lucky enough to try it on at a store in a 30F (which didn't fit). The saleswomen assured me that one cup size down would be enough, but alas, it was not quite. I should have ordered a 28E instead of a 30E.

Pros: This is the most comfortable bra I have probably ever worn: the straps don't dig in, the underwires rest nicely against my sternum without poking, and the band is SO soft. There is no monoboob or east-west look with this bra. I get a front and center, ... separated, perky shape in this bra. Also, the straps are close set, so it isn't necessary to hook them in the back to get them to stay up!

Cons: I would say the cups and band run large. So unless you are a very full __, order down a cup and band size (you can always pick up a band extender from WalMart - way easier than taking in the band!) So, a 32DD would order a 30DD or 32D. The straps have some stretch, which is not something I like in a sports bra, especially since they are already too long when tightened all they way. The wires are such that you cannot bend them differently - they are not stiff enough to hold the new shape. Finally, after wearing it for a while, it feels as though the bra is pushing down on the top of my breasts instead of supporting me from beneath.

Even though it isn't suitable for high-impact, it is great for days when I will be moving around/sweating a lot. (I would say it is medium impact.) Also, it gives me a great shape and profile beneath my event t-shirts (those shapeless, baggy, unisex shirts that you get, usually for free, for attending events).

It's taken a lot of convincing to admit that this is the wrong size considering how comfortable it was to wear around. Ultimately the cup was too full for my shallow breasts when it came to working out. Perhaps I'll try a smaller cup size in store next time.

I really like this bra! I previously used the Shock Absorber B4490 in 32DD for running and only heard good things about the Panache bra, so I had to try it out. https://d28qt14g3opchh.cloudfront.net/smileys/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" /> Mine is purple/grey.

I bought it in my usual Panache size, which is 30E (or 30DD, but in 30E the wires are better for me). At first, the bra almost seemed too big for me, but only a little. It still completely inhibits bounce and is supercomfortable! I could imagine wearing this bra for longer stretches of time than the Shock Absorber. The Shock Absorber compresses, this bra encapsulates and still manages to not make my breasts cone-shaped (like the Freya Active sports bra is said to do).

This bra is (officially) not machine washable! Probably because of the wires. I don't know how that will play out since I do sweat while doing sports... https://d28qt14g3opchh.cloudfront.net/smileys/icon_neutral.gif" alt=":|" />

Really like this! Very comfortable and soft material. The cups fit perfectly and the band is nice is snug. Definitely for medium to high-impact sports as it's quite tight.

These have quite wide wires which I love! It is true to size in the band but the band is very snug for high-impact activities. Not to the point of discomfort to me but I like a snug band and my snug UB is 29. Straps are perfect and it's just a really pretty sports bra, doesn't feel like a regular underwire bra at all.
