Cup Depth & Breast Perimeter?

I am new to 'extended' bra sizing and had never heard of sizes larger than an E until recently. I have now kinda figured out my correct size; I am very confident in my band size but am slightly befuddled by cup sizing. Since I have to buy my bras online (because Canada has a dismal selection in stores) I find that I am often guessing about what cup size I really need.

So, I have some questions for everyone. What is the relationship between cup depth and breast perimeter? Are depth and perimeter supposed to be equal? Should cup depth be shallower than breast measurement in order to give more support? If so, then by how much? Does anyone have any advice? :)

  • For me It's okay not equal up to 1.5 inches. like my breast perimeter is 13.5inches but I can wear 12inches of half cup bra and I think Its depends on people because we have all different shape and preference.

  • In your size range, standing breast perimeter is usually not that directly helpful (unless you have augmented or early-teens breasts with little to no sag or stretching of skin). On the other hand if you find it is physically possible to take a lying down perimeter measurement where the breast is "balanced" on top of your torso (as opposed to hanging off the side of the torso) that can provide a pretty close representation of ideal cup depth.
