Riddle me this - if a 32D and a 30DD are the "same cup size" why does a 32D often have wider wires and a shallower cup and the 30DD has narrower wires and a more projected cup depth??

I'm noticing I have "wide roots" so a 30DD in many models is what I measure as. The wires will sometimes sit on the edge of breast tissue but the deepest part of the upper part of cup will have the slightest amount of emptiness. Meanwhile a 32D will fit nicely without gaping or pinching, but then I have to shorten the band because a 32 is too loose. :(

  • A 32D is made for a person who is broader. They might have the same total breast volume as a 30DD wearer, but spread over a larger area on the larger rib cage. Thus breasts that are wider and shallower. That's why sister-sizing doesn't always work.

  • So, is it pretty much safe to say if I buy 32D instead of 30DD and just shorten the band, I'll have a wider selection of well fitting bras?

I haven't found many 30 bands with my favored width of 12.8-13.5cm and depth around 20-20.7cm

I have a 30D I like but the cup must be pretty wide for that size - it fits really well at the smallest breast time of the month, but has progressivly more quadding as my breast size gets bigger through certain times of the month. All the others are 32D or 30DD. Just happened to find my sweet spot on width and depth and was doing some research
